Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks are formed from pre-existing rocks, skeletal remains of sea creatures, and shells. The texture of limestone is comprised of fossils or shell formation, pit holes, reedy formations, open texture streaks, honeycomb formations, iron spots, and grain formation changes. The coloring and veining of limestone is caused by impurities coming in contact with the stone during formation. Some of the impurities can include clay, iron oxide, sand, and other similar materials. Limestone that is pure has not come into contact with these materials and will take on a white or almost white color.
