Travertine
Travertine is a sedimentary rock that is formed from carbonate minerals of a chemical precipitation. Unlike limestone, travertine is formed from a land environment and is smoother in texture than limestone but still has land deposits and fragments from plants and animals. The land deposits and fragments are what will change the coloring and character of the stone if travertine has not been tainted with impurities. Travertine will sometimes take on a combined name with marble or limestone but it is not to be mistaken for a limestone or marble. Travertine is a stone that carries different characteristics than that of a marble or limestone.
